Case study
Valeo runs the Grow Together program which involves supporting employees through an internal mentoring program. This year, the Polish branch was responsible for organizing the fourth edition of the international monitoring program. We approached Leaders Island for support in preparing a series of webinars for mentors from around the world. The group was diverse both in terms of culture and management experience. The goal of the project was to strengthen the mentors’ core competencies to enable them to better understand and communicate with their mentee.
Additionally, for our mentors from Poland, we wanted to organize a series of workshops and trainings. We were familiar with Leaders Island from other projects they had run with us (Foundation of the Beginning Leader and Managerial Communication) and were confident in the value delivered, hence the choice was again Leaders Island.
The process began with learning about the needs and establishing the goals of the project.
The webinars were designed to help Mentors understand the issue of change – which are an inevitable part of the world we live in – and how to manage it. For a Mentor, a good understanding of change and guiding Mentees through it is crucial to successful mentoring.
How to use intrinsic motivation in the mentoring process?
Human behavior – which is the outward expression of attitudes, as well as the determinants of expected competencies developed, among others, in the mentoring process – is a product of many factors. One of them of fundamental importance is a person’s basic needs/desires, which do not change over time. The webinar will present examples of specific situations in which the application of Steven Reiss’ RMP motivation theory can bring positive results. The webinar will also help managers conducting mentoring sessions expand their knowledge of motivation and learn how to put it into practice to make their mentoring even more effective and tailored to the needs of the mentee.
