Kanban

The Kanban method is a way to manage workflow and visualize business processes. Its task is to optimize work and processes in order to achieve the highest possible efficiency. This method is used with the help of boards on which individual tasks are organized into columns, e.g., “to do”, “in progress”, “done”. Kanban boards can be created on paper, a whiteboard, or in an appropriate online tool.

Step 1:
Visualizing work

The Kanban method allows you to observe the progress of a task, so you can check their status at any time.

Step 2:
Limiting work in progress

One of the features of Kanban is the fast moving of tasks between columns: avoid leaving tasks in the “in progress” column for too long, and instead focus on completing individual tasks sequentially.

Step 3:
Flow management

Try to optimize the flow of tasks on the board – this will make it easier to limit work in progress.

Step 4:
Establishing clear rules

Before starting work using the Kanban methodology, establish the rules for its implementation with your team, so that during work they are clear and any doubts do not disrupt the dynamics of action.

Step 5:
Feedback

In the Kanban method, emphasis is placed on feedback from both the client and the team.

  • Get feedback from the client regarding the solution developed by your team: Was it appropriate? What possible problems occurred? What should be changed?
  • Discuss the functioning of the Kanban method with your team: what do individual people think about their work? Does the Kanban method make their work more effective?
Step 6:
Improving and developing

What characterizes Kanban is the search for improvements. If you see space to implement other processes to support the functioning of your team, do it.
