Shannon-Weaver Model

The Shannon-Weaver model owes its name to the surnames of its creators. It was designed to achieve effective communication between the sender and the receiver. Initially developed to improve technical communication, it later found application in the field of communication. According to the model, there are five most important elements of the communication process: sender, transmitter, channel, receiver, and destination. Furthermore, the creators took into account the impact of noise on the communication process. When using this model, it is worth remembering about feedback.

1. Sender

As a sender, you decide what content your message will have and to whom you will address it.

2. Transmitter

You choose the way you will convey your message: whether it will be a face-to-face conversation, an email, or a phone call, and in this way your message is encoded.

3. Channel, which is affected by noise

Your message is on its way to the receiver, and during this time it is exposed to noise, which can be the influence of other people who may change your message or distort the source of information.

4. Receiver

The message you sent is decoded so that it can be received by the addressee.

5. Destination

The message you sent is received. At this point, it is important to obtain feedback from the message addressee to verify any ambiguities.
